Amateurs will be swayed by distractions; they'll create distractions, make choices that actually feed the life they don't want, and starve the life they say they want. They'll find justification to compromise and find anything else to do except follow through with the promises they made—not only to themselves but also to the people they say they love and those who believed in them.

They'll say, "I'll take another run at it, another time." And when things inevitably don't go the way they want, they'll come up with every excuse in the book or blame the professional for their calamity, or say, "They got lucky."

While professionals will remain singularly focused on their intention and their promises, this law of amateurs versus professionals will harshly, unapologetically, and unfailingly manifest itself in the health of your business, your finances, your living situation, and ultimately your relationships.

If something has changed for you, if things have slowed down for you, if you're not where you want to be, it has nothing to do with outside circumstances and everything to do with you.

You have a responsibility to do what you've never done, regardless of circumstances, to become someone you've never been. You must become a warrior for your cause and for the cause of those who trusted you and came behind you.

You must be willing to cross personal thresholds, hold fast, and then move forward, not back—constantly taking new ground—or you will slide right back into the mediocrity you just crawled out from.

You will never effectively lead others to greatness until you dump your excuses, reasons, and justifications, and finally effectively lead yourself to greatness.

Bottom line—you get good at what you practice. Where you find yourself right now is the result of what you've been practicing up until this point.

You will never become a professional while practicing the behaviors of an amateur.
